Want a Quick Route to Six-Pack Abs?

I recently wrote about The Secret to Sexy Abs, so I was more than a little amused when I read the Wall Street Journal Online’s, Six-Pack Surgery: From Puffy to Buff.

This liposuction procedure basically just sucks out lines of fat around the abs in a mock six-pack configuration. Now, I’m all for looking good, that’s mainly what this blog is about, but not at the exclusion of the healthy benefits of exercise. To me, this is the ultimate expression of form over function, or the ‘all show and no go’ syndrome that I so dislike. Sure, I want six pack abs, what guy doesn’t? But I also want the functional strength, power and agility that go with the muscle.

To be honest, I don’t think this procedure looks that good anyway. There’s something decidedly odd about the end result that I can’t quite put my finger on. Perhaps it’s because the guy’s body fat levels aren’t quite low enough to be displaying such a pronounced six-pack. Maybe it’s because of the complete lack of the other abdominal muscles I spoke of in my sexy abs article, that are so important not only for aesthetics, but for functional strength and power too.

At $4000 to $7000, I think this money would have been better spent on a gym contract or personal training sessions, but then again I guess some people just don’t like hard work.
